The Rise of Mercy Chinwo – from Nobody to Somebody (God did it)
Mercy Chinwo, whose given name is Mercy Nnenda Chinwo, is a gifted gospel artiste, songwriter, and singer from Nigeria.
At age 8, she was inspired to follow her musical dreams and join the church’s youth choir; she eventually moved on to the adult chorus. She hasn’t looked back at that point in time.
In 2012, the musician gained widespread attention after she triumphed in the second season of Nigerian Idol. The contest was a stepping stone to her future as a musician.
Releases of the singles “Testimony” in 2015 and “Igwe” in 2016 marked the beginning of Mercy’s professional career. Both songs did well, and the emerging celebrity’s star began to rise in the eyes of the internet.
The singer released a hit single, “Excess Love,” earlier this year. Not only did the hit song rule the charts in Nigeria, but it also swept the globe. Because of the immense success of the project, she was nominated for and ultimately won a number of significant accolades in the gospel music genre.
This year’s Climax Awards Best Gospel Artist is only one example.
Mercy has been a big winner at this year’s Africa Gospel Awards Festivals. She took home several trophies, including “Africa Gospel New Artiste of the Year,” “Africa Gospel Female Artiste of the Year,” and “Africa Gospel Song of the Year” [Excess Love]. In the gospel category at the AFRIMMA 2020 Awards, Chinwo took home the top prize.
The song did more than earn her praise; it also established her as a leader in Nigeria’s gospel scene.
The ‘Excess Love’ singer has been teaming up with foreign musicians in an effort to expand his fanbase beyond Nigeria. Collaborations with Mercylinah, Davido, and JJ Hairston have resulted in chart-topping singles for all three artists. She is a firm believer in God and a devoted worker who dedicates herself fully to her work.
